We’re back! Season 2 of CBC

Welcome back to Albert Campbell Collegiate Institute! We hope that your return to school was as smooth as possible and we wish you the best of luck in all of your classes! Nevertheless, the new school year is a great way to reach out of your comfort zone and explore new interests; a great way to do that is to join the Campbell Business Club!

What is Campbell Business Club?

Campbell Business Club (shortened to CBC, formerly DECA Campbell) is the club for all Campbell students who are interested in the field of business! You don’t have to have prior knowledge of business since we’ll give you the ropes and you can apply that learning to various business competitions! Additionally, CBC can be a great opportunity to expand your network and meet new friends!

Over the 2022-23 school year, we’ll aim to compete in the JOT and McMaster High School Business Heroes (HSBH) competitions. Our end goal, though, is that you’ll gain insight into the business world and most importantly, have fun!

When is our first meeting?

Our first meeting will be after school on Wednesday, September XX, in room 241 (Mr. Laundy’s room). Consecutive meetings will occur weekly after school every Wednesday in room 241. These meetings will usually include lessons about key business concepts, important information about business competitions, and opportunities to practice and socialize with fellow club members!

I have no business experience. Can I join this club?

Absolutely! Our club accepts any Albert Campbell CI student who is interested in business, regardless if they have experience in marketing, finance, or any other business subject! You do not need to take any prior business courses and we aim to promote a learning-friendly environment.

Moreover, the JOT Competition also has an Introduction to Business case study for grade 9 / 10 students, and in McMaster’s High School Business Heroes competition you’ll also receive a McMaster business student who’ll act as a mentor during the competition!

What will we be doing this year?

We will mainly focus on two competitions:

The JOT Competition will happen near the end of 2022 / early 2023 and will consist of a qualifying business test- and if you qualify, a series of case studies. The test and the case studies include a vast amount of business topics, from marketing to accounting, and from business 101 to entrepreneurship! Some events are individual, while others are team events!

McMaster’s High School Business Heroes will happen in 2023 and will consist of a case study, where you’ll create a video pitch, then a business plan, and finally present your business plan from representatives in the industry! You’ll be able to create a team and you’ll also get a McMaster student mentoring you during the competition!

Depending on the school year, we may add more events and competitions! To sign up for the events, please join our Google Classroom; we’ll send updates once they become available. The Google Classroom will also serve as our central forum for club updates and future meetings!

How can CBC help prepare me for future business courses?

By joining Campbell Business Club, you can gain the foundation needed to excel in these courses:

  • Introduction to Business (BBI2O1)
  • Financial Accounting Fundamentals (BAF3M1)
  • Entrepreneurship: The Venture (BDI3C1)

  • Business Leadership: Management Fundamentals (BOH4M1)
  • and more!

Just a reminder though that you do not need to take any of these courses to be in CBC!

What other reasons should I join CBC?

Campbell Business Club is also a great way to explore the business field by learning the basic concepts of this industry, then applying them in real life through case studies! Moreover, these competitions are a great way to network with fellow competitors, improve your communication skills, and can demonstrate/build your leadership skills! Finally, participating in CBC and these competitions is a phenomenal thing that you can add to your resume!

What is this website for?

This website will the forefront of CBC (alongside our Instagram), and will have updates and contain information about this club. Additionally, we want to use this website as a tool for business resources, so periodically we will post about key business concepts, expanded versions of our slideshows, and more!

What happened to DECA Campbell?

In 2021, DECA Campbell transitioned into Campbell Business Club due to disagreements between DECA proper and DECA Ontario. Though this decision was intended to be short-term, we have decided to continue the brand of Campbell Business Club for the 2022-23 school year. However, our competitions (JOT/McMaster’s HSBH) and material offer a similar experience to DECA!
